What is Vistabel® ?

Vistabel® is the registered tradename for Botulinum toxin type 'A' for use in cosmetic treatments. It is more commonly known as Botox®, though in the UK this latter trade name strictly applies to the toxin used for medical rather than cosmetic purposes.

Vistabel® is made from the purified neurotoxin produced by Clostridium botulinum type 'A'. An injection of a tiny amount of this toxin prevents the release of acetylcholine from sympathetic nerve endings, thus preventing the affected muscle from contracting and causing wrinkles and frown lines.

How Botox® / Vistabel® works

The effect is temporary, typically after the first set of injections the blocking action wears off in about three months. Subsequent injections in the same area will often result in longer-lasting effects.

Possible side effects of the treatment are generally minor, but anyone considering treatment must carefully read the Consent Form (which can be downloaded from this site) as this explains these and also details which conditions and prescription drug regimes preclude the use of this cosmetic treatment.
